Hello again, thanks for providing us with a great site for our fantasy post season needs.

As you may recall, I expressed some concern about scoring, specifically goaltender scoring, http://fantasypostseason.com/forums/1/topics/81 and point multipliers http://fantasypostseason.com/forums/1/topics/82

Now I think some numbers were run, and it was determined that something was amiss and adjustments were made, but I think some tweaking still needs to be done.

I realize I might not be saying anything if my goaltenders didnt blow chunks (Luongo and Brouder) but Im over -10 points and its to the point in the pool, if you got a goalie that was a back up your doing better than guys who have playing goaltenders.

One other option that might be helpful, is to include points by players that were obtained b4 the draft in the pool was held. Seeing as there is a very short window to hold a draft when the regular season ends and the playoffs begin.

This might alleviate some woes as the 2 goaltenders mentioned above, might have had some wins b4 the draft was held, and now they have lost a few games and are KILLING overall point totals

What’s up Sector7g! Thanks for the compliment – we certainly have come a long way from where we were during NHL ’09.

We implemented the above changes this season for NHL ‘10 after our correspondence last year. We’re open on the defaults – we don’t pretend to be hockey gurus, but we know our fantasy sports. wink Let us know what you think makes the most sense, and we’ll review.

As for the early game results – hopefully you didn’t miss the league alert we added last week. We have the ability to backload scoring – but it was up to the league commissioners to send us an email at admin@fantasypostseason.com (and a large number of folks did). If you would like them added, please let us know the league ID, and the games you want added.

Thanks again for participating here at FantasyPostseason.com. We’re a small team, but we’re very dedicated to making this everybody’s favorite fantasy sports site to visit. Enjoy!!

Hey Sector7g,

We still have some work to do with the goalies. The negative points (-3) for a loss is still too harsh. My sense is that we should cut that down to -1 or even 0 as a default.

As for including points by players that played in games before a given draft…

1) We added the ability for offline drafts to do just this. After a commish enters an offline draft, if games have started, we give them the ability to post score.

2) For live drafts leagues, we will try to add this ability during the summer. We have been taking requests from league commissioners to manually add scores for games prior to a given draft and we have been doing that. We’ve had about 50 such requests.

Glad to see you back this year.

What do you think about some of the new features we have added since last year?

Kevin

I am glad to see the changes made from my observations. The pre draft rankings were MUCH improved from last year where all of SJ and Bos were ranked high.

I would like to see more sorting options when drafting/choosing players. I suggest a way to see all points accrued to date in the playoffs for picking up players via free agency.

Also a team sort option thats a little easier than clicking team at the top and guessing that Philly is on page 23.

That all I got for now, its late, perhaps more later on :D

I would like to add my thought on a goaltender scoring.

Gonna start out with what I think a goalie should get for a Win with 30 shots and 1-2 goals against.

A good game and deserving of some points. say 5

so if your goalie wins all 4 games with this criteria met that would = 20 points for the round and and a decent take.

Now your tender aint gonna win all games like that, so lets see where the points should fluctuate.

Now the points should go up depending on more shots and a shutout. 3 additional point for a shutout and 1 point per ten shots with no goals scored against sounds good to me.

And of course the points should go down if you loose the game, let in more goals, or get less shots.

1 points for every 10 shots so a 30 save night is 3 points. a 25 save night is 2.5

I think you need to factor in save percentage here. a save percentage above .9 is considered good. If your goalie maintains a .9-.91 save percentage you remain at an 0 point gain, if you have a % .91-.92 = 1/2 point , .92-.93 = extra 1/2 point and so on. A shutout is 1.0 save % and is 9 % points above the .9-.91 average and using the 1/2 point per % gain = 4.5 point for a shutout. (can round up 5 points)

Now the reverse should also work. .89 .9 % = -.5 point , .88.89% -.5 and so on

and it might look something like this.

Win = 2 points

.920 save percentage = 1 points

30 saves = 3 pnts

6 points

If you loose the game no win points but you get the saves and save percentage points

4 points

Loose the game with 30 shots and a .89 save % = 2.5 points

Loose the game with 20 shots .83 save % -1.5 points

Might have to work out some numbers. But can add or subtract .1 or .2 per one hundredth of a save percentage and add a bonus 2-3 points if a shutout was made.

Ive seen some pretty low save % on a night where a tender was pulled. Might need to set a – cap of 3-5 points per game.

Just some ideas Ive been thinking of. Perhaps more to come.

Good ideas. The only comment I’ll have right now is that save percentage is something that may confuse a good percentage of our user base. We have learned to try to keep things simple.

What is the solution then ?

Let me see the results of some different point structures.

What’s your thoughts on these settings from one of my current leagues:

Goalies:
Per Save: 0.2
Per Goal Allowed: -1.0
Per Win: 5.0
Per Loss: -3.0

Halak: 43.4
Rask: 36.8
Anderson: 32.6
Fleury: 26.3
Varlamov: 19.8
Brodeur: .2

Sector7g_thumbnail Sector7g 31 post(s)

not bad.

Luongo ?

Sector7g_thumbnail Sector7g 31 post(s)

what about what was mentioned above

4 for a win -1 loss -1 per goal allowed.

and

.1 or .15 or .2 for a save.

not sure what you have for default player scoring, but you kinda want the top forwards = with the top goaltenders
